Ink to Paper...

Words...we all say them, type them, text them...and some of us (myself included) even take a pen or pencil to paper and write them down! (I often say that some of my greatest gifts are handwritten recipes or notes from my relatives who now live in Heaven. These treasures are a way of physically feeling their presence with me always.)

This is why words matter! The words we say can be harsh or kind and be etched into a person's soul forever. The lasting presence we want our words to have on others is up to us and we can choose...sometimes right and sometimes wrong (again, myself included.) Words can heal or they can cause pain. Oftentimes, we remember something someone says to us our entire lives! (That is pretty powerful!)

Whether sweet or sour, words can be felt in our hearts. It is said that actions speak louder than words, and while this is true in many instances, think about how it would feel if there were only silence...if noone spoke, or wrote, or typed, or texted. The silence would be deafening! Words have great power and how they are said or what they are inteded to mean can make or break any realtionship.

I have pens and pencils in each of my desks, in my nighstand, the kitchen drawer, my purse, the car...everywhere. I WANT to be prepared to write or take notes when needed. Sure, it is so easy to put it in your phone, but I am one of "those people" who know that the actual act of writing increases muscle memory and helps each person learn better. (Just ask my students because I tell them this all of the time! Computers, phones, and tablets are useful, but it has been proven that writing something down increases memory.)

So why this pen in this photo?? I am getting ready to set-up book signing events soon and two of my children sent me this gift to use to autograph my books! (I cried!) It is my favorite color (purple, of course) and it says "Pusateri Publications." My name means the world to me and to see it on a pen reminds me of the actual pencil and paper that was used over a century ago to write my grandfather's name on the ship's manifest when he came here from Italy. There was no computer used, no software or tablet...a pencil and paper...and I have that very peice of paper framed! This pen, the love behind the gift, and the books that I will prayerfully sign for people soon are very close to my heart. In the end, it is all about the words that I will write with this pen and countless others in the years to come. What words can you say, or text, or type, or write that will be the positive difference to someone today? Use them wisely and touch someone's heart with the pwoer of words.
